WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT
For the Outbreak project in C9, we were split up into groups of 4-6 and assigned a region in which we were supposed to simulate an outbreak of a deadly disease, virus, parasite, etc. My group was assigned Eastern Europe and the country that we chose was Ukraine. The virus that we chose was Poliomyelitis or more commonly known as polio. The most recent outbreak of polio was in 2015 (in Ukraine). For our project, we had to do a number of things such as historical research on Eastern Europe, scientific research on polio, a brochure for our region and our virus, a timeline of the history of Eastern Europe from the Industrial Age to the Cold war, a travel advisory video for citizens and visitors of Ukraine, and a power point that we presented in front of an audience.
I CREATED AN ORIGINAL PROJECT
My group and I created an original and unique project for my outbreak assignment. I thought creatively by helping create a 3D model as well as participating as one of the main roles in the travel advisory video that my group put together. I developed my original ideas through constant revising and editing of my groups brochure, timeline, research, and power point. I also took feedback from my teachers and my peers to refine how my project was going to turn out. I used different sources of inspiration to create things like my groups brochure. For the brochure, I looked at professional brochures for organizations like the United States Marine Corp and the Red Cross. The ideas in our project were well thought out and professionally executed. There were many things that we could fix in order to improve our project such as our presentation.
I SOLVED PROBLEMS
I had to solve a lot of problems when it came to the outbreak project. At times, I had to edit many things in order to make sure that our group would receive a good grade. There were also times when members of our group were procrastinating, but in the end we all pulled through and did a great job. There were times were alternate solutions were used to carry out the project, such as when two of our group members were absent on a band trip. For the presentation, the 4 of us who were remaining for the presentation carried it out by ourselves. A big challenge that we ran into was organization when it came to our research. I learned that in order to get the work that we wanted to get done without having to search for a file for 1 hour, organization was key.
